Traveling to St. John
The first part of your trip will be a flight to our neighboring island of St. Thomas. There are several airlines that fly into St. Thomas (STT) including American, Delta, Jet Blue, Spirit, and United Airlines.
Once you arrive at the St. Thomas airport, there are at least four ways to get to your villa on the neighboring island of St. John:
The Westin airport check-in
The Westin ferry boat "Fast Cat"
Option 1 - Westin Transportation
The easiest way to get to St John is to use the Westin Resort's transportation package. The Westin maintains an office in the baggage claim area at the airport. There you may sign up for this package while you're waiting for your luggage.
Transfer Costs:
$142 for adults round trip
$95 for youth (ages 4-12) round trip
One-way is $80
No charge for children 3 years old and under
If you choose the private Westin ferry service, you will check-in at the Westin reception desk at the airport and leave your luggage with the Westin staff for direct transport to your villa. You will enjoy the 45-minute ride across the island of St Thomas to the Red Hook ferry dock in an enclosed, air-conditioned van that is equipped with WiFi.
Upon arrival at the Red Hook dock, you will be met by Westin staff who will escort you to the ferry for a 15-minute ride directly to The Resort dock, where you will be welcomed by The Resort staff and offered transportation directly to your villa.
Please provide your flight information at least 7 days prior to your visit by calling the Westin Resort front desk (340-693-8000) to ensure that the airport staff is ready for your arrival. Please note that Westin ferry passes must be purchased at the Westin Airport office.
The Westin ferry service includes round-trip service from the airport and the resort (including all transportation and luggage fees), unlimited travel between St. John and St. Thomas for the duration of your stay, and daily shopping trips to downtown St. Thomas (including taxi service to and from the ferry dock).
This option is our recommendation for the easiest and most worry-free way to get to the Westin on St. John. This option is also a great choice if you plan to make frequent trips to St. Thomas (for shopping, site-seeing, etc.).
Option 2 - Inter Island Ferry Service
There is a great ferry service offered from Inter Island Boat Services providing service between Crown Bay, St. Thomas and Cruz Bay, St. John. From the St. Thomas airport you will need to take a public taxi to Crown Bay (approximately a 10-minute ride). The Inter Island ferry leaves from Crown Bay daily at 2:15 p.m., 3:30 p.m. and 5:30 p.m. The ferry ride is approximately 35-minutes to Cruz Bay.
Transfer Costs:
$20 per person
$5 per bag
The ferry boat back to St. Thomas leaves from Cruz Bay daily at 11:00 a.m., 1:15 p.m., and 4:15 p.m. This ferry does NOT leave where the regular (public) ferries leave. The Inter Island ferry leaves from the creek, which is beside the old customs building and the Virgin Island Visitors center. The Inter Island ferry logo is a large, sun-like image.
This option is our personal favorite and the service we most often use ourselves to ferry between St. Thomas and St. John. And, if you have time, Tickles Bar (in the Crown Bay Marina) is a great place to relax.

Option 3 - St. Thomas Red Hook Public Ferry
Take a taxi to the St. Thomas Red Hook ferry dock, typically a 35 minute ride costing about $15 per person plus $2-$3 per piece of luggage.
- Then take the public ferry to Cruz Bay, St. John
- a 15 - 20 minute ride at $8.15 per person
- $1 children ages 2-11, and
- $4 per piece of luggage.
Finally, take a short taxi ride to the Westin St. John Resort at $5 per person, with a variable charge for each piece of luggage.
Example of a ferry you might take to St John
Option 4 - Car Ferry
Rent a car at or near the St. Thomas airport and then drive to the Red Hook car barge dock at the East End of St. Thomas. This option can make good sense if you intend to rent a vehicle during your stay on St. John, anyway. The car rental fees tend to be less on St. Thomas than they are on St. John.
The car barge fee will be approximately $50 round-trip.
If you rent a car on St. Thomas, you should always check that the rental agency will allow you to take their vehicle off of St. Thomas; not all of them will. Also remember to allow additional time to return your car on your return trip. It is a good idea to check the car ferry departure times and car rental agency operating hours to ensure that they can coordinate with your arrival and departure flight times.
Once the car barge gets you to St. John, it is less than a one mile drive to the Westin St. John lobby, where you can check in at the front desk just as any other Resort guest would. Some things to be wary of if you choose to use this method are:
1.) The last car ferry leaving St. Thomas for St. John departs at about 7:00 PM;
2.) The first car ferry to leave St. John for St. Thomas departs at typically 6:20 AM.
So, if your flight into St. Thomas arrives later than about 5:00 PM, you might not make that last car ferry to St. John. For the return trip, if your flight back to the States departs earlier than about 9:30 AM, you might not get to the airport in time to catch your flight.
Also remember - We drive on the LEFT side of the road here!!
