The Westin St John Resort
St John Condos can help travelers from Westbrook Center, Connecticut, plan a week of snorkeling and beach days on St. John, with villas rented by the week at the Westin St John Resort. Ask the local team any question before you book.
Westbrook Center sits on the Connecticut shoreline, in the Northeast, where winters are cold and the summer months feel like a welcome change. For many families and couples from here, a week on a warm Caribbean island is the kind of trip they plan a long time ahead. A week of snorkeling and lazy beach days asks for a bit of planning, but the rhythm of the days is simple once you settle into it. St. John is a small island in the US Virgin Islands, and the reefs around it reward anyone who likes to swim with fish and watch the water change color. Most of your time will be spent in the water, on sand, or under a shade tree with a book. Villa rentals at the Westin St John Resort give you room to spread out, cook a few meals, and keep your own schedule while the sea does most of the work.

Planning a snorkeling week from Westbrook Center
- Reaching St. John. Most visitors fly into St. Thomas, which has the airport code STT, then take a taxi to Red Hook and catch the passenger ferry across to Cruz Bay on St. John. If you plan to drive on the island, remember that traffic keeps to the left. The local team can talk through the connections with you before you commit to dates.
- Choosing when to go. Leaving a Connecticut winter behind is the main reason many travelers from Westbrook Center head south, so think about which weeks suit your schedule and budget. Shoulder seasons often mean calmer water and fewer people on the beaches. Weather on the islands stays warm year round, so the choice comes down to your own calendar more than the forecast.
- Planning the stay. Villas are rented by the week, which suits a snorkeling trip well because you can plan around the tide and the wind each day. Think about where you want to be close to the water and how many people are traveling. Once you have a rough plan, the St John Condos team can answer questions about the villas and help you lock in your week.
Frequently asked questions
Do I need a car to enjoy the snorkeling and beaches on St. John?
Many visitors get around on foot or by taxi, but a car gives you more freedom to reach different beaches on your own schedule. Remember that you will be driving on the left side of the road. The St John Condos team can share what to expect so you can decide what works for your group.
What should I pack from Westbrook Center for a week of snorkeling?
Bring your own well fitting mask and snorkel if you have them, reef safe sunscreen, a rash guard, and light clothing for warm days. Pack a dry bag for your phone and keys. Because the island is warm all year, you can leave the heavy winter layers at home.
