The Westin St John Resort
St John Condos is a local team that answers questions before you book, and many travelers from Durham, Connecticut, plan a beach-focused trip to St. John around a villa rental at the Westin St John Resort.
A beach trip to St. John tends to start with a simple wish: sand underfoot, clear water in front of you, and a quiet place to come back to at the end of the day. For travelers from Durham, Connecticut, that wish often means stepping out of a northern winter and into a warm Caribbean setting. The island suits people who want the beach to be the center of the trip rather than a side stop. Villa Rentals at the Westin St John Resort give you a home base that feels separate from a standard hotel room. You can plan slow mornings, long swims, and afternoons spent reading under shade, then return to a space that is yours for the week. Before you commit, St John Condos can walk you through what the villas offer and help you match one to the way you like to spend a beach day.

Planning a beach trip from Durham
- Reaching the island. Most visitors fly into St. Thomas, which has the airport code STT, and then take a taxi to Red Hook, where the passenger ferry carries you across to Cruz Bay on St. John. Plan your bags with that crossing in mind, since you will be carrying them onto the boat and along the dock. If you rent a car on the island, remember that driving on St. John is on the left side of the road.
- Choosing your season. Connecticut winters are cold, so many people from Durham look for a warm-weather escape during the darker months. Think about whether you want the beach as your main activity or as one part of a broader trip, and choose your dates with that in mind. Your travel plans should fit your own schedule and what you hope to enjoy in the water and on the sand.
- Planning your stay. Villa Rentals are typically booked by the week, which gives you room to settle in and let the beach set the pace. Decide early whether you want a villa close to the water or a quieter spot with more privacy. Bring questions to the St John Condos team before you book, and they will help you think through the details of your stay.
Frequently asked questions
Is a villa a good choice if the beach is my main goal?
For many beach travelers, yes. A villa gives you a private place to rest between swims, cook simple meals, and keep your gear in one spot. Because villas are rented by the week, you can settle into a steady beach routine instead of packing and unpacking for short stays.

Yes. St John Condos is a local team that answers questions before you book, so you can ask about the villas, the resort, or how to plan your arrival from Connecticut. Reach out with whatever you are unsure about, and the team will give you clear, honest answers.
