The Westin St John Resort
St John Condos is a local team that answers questions for travelers from Riverton, Connecticut, planning a week of exploring the island from a villa at the Westin St John Resort. Ask us anything before you book, and we will talk through what a week there can look like.
Riverton sits in Connecticut, in the Northeast, where winters are cold and the days can feel short for much of the year. A week on St. John offers a different rhythm: warm air, clear water, and a slower pace that many travelers from this part of the country find refreshing. Planning the trip well makes the difference between a rushed holiday and one that feels genuinely restful. Most visitors reach St. John by flying into St. Thomas, which has the airport code STT, then taking a taxi to Red Hook and catching the passenger ferry to Cruz Bay. Once you arrive, your villa becomes your base. Villa Rentals at the Westin St John Resort give you room to spread out, cook a meal, and wander at your own speed through the island.

Planning a week from Riverton
- Getting from the area. Start by looking at how you will reach St. Thomas from your home. Many Riverton travelers connect through larger hubs before arriving at STT. Once you land, a taxi can take you to Red Hook, where the passenger ferry carries you across to Cruz Bay. Keep your bags manageable, since you will be walking a little and handling your luggage yourself at the ferry.
- Choosing when to leave. Connecticut's winter months are often the reason people book an island week, but the timing still matters. Think about school calendars, work commitments, and how much warm weather you want. Late winter and spring tend to suit those escaping cold New England mornings, while other seasons bring their own character. Your local team can help you weigh these options before you commit.
- Planning the stay. Rent your villa by the week so you have time to settle in rather than rushing between places. Decide early which days you want for the beach, which for driving, and which for simply resting. Remember that driving on St. John happens on the left, which can feel unfamiliar at first. Leaving a few open days lets the week unfold naturally.
Frequently asked questions
Do I need a rental car to explore St. John for a week?
Many visitors find a car useful for reaching beaches and trails at their own pace, but the island is small and some people prefer taxis. Keep in mind that you drive on the left. Your St John Condos team can share what most guests from Riverton tend to choose, so you can decide with confidence before arriving.
Is a villa a good choice for a week compared with a standard room?
A villa gives you a kitchen, extra space, and a more private feel, which suits a longer stay well. Villa Rentals at the Westin St John Resort are booked by the week, so you can settle in and enjoy the island without moving around. Ask us any questions about layouts before you book.
