The Westin St John Resort

St John Condos helps families in Calhoun County, Illinois plan a villa stay at the Westin St John Resort, answering questions about villa rentals before you book.

If you live in Calhoun County, Illinois, a family trip to the Caribbean can feel like a big step away from the flat fields and quiet river towns you know. Many families from the Midwest choose St. John because it offers warm water, green hills, and a slower pace that suits children and grandparents alike. A villa at the Westin St John Resort gives everyone room to spread out, which matters when you are traveling with a mix of ages and energy levels. Villa rentals are rented by the week, so a family can settle in, keep a regular routine for younger children, and cook a few meals together rather than eating out every night. Our team at St John Condos can walk you through layouts, bedroom arrangements, and what each villa offers before you commit. For a family leaving the cold winters of Illinois behind, that kind of planning ahead makes the whole trip feel easier.

Planning a family trip from Calhoun County

  1. Getting to St. John. Most visitors fly into St. Thomas, which uses the airport code STT, and then take a taxi to Red Hook. From there, the passenger ferry carries you across to Cruz Bay on St. John. Plan for a little extra time with children and luggage, and keep car seats and comfort items easy to reach. Once on the island, remember that driving is on the left, so take a moment to adjust before heading out.
  2. Choosing when to leave. Calhoun County winters are cold, so many families from Illinois look forward to a warm escape during the coldest months. Think about school calendars, work schedules, and how much sunshine your family wants. The island stays warm year round, so the choice often comes down to your own calendar and budget. Talk through the options with our team before you set dates.
  3. Planning the stay. A villa lets your family set its own pace, with beach mornings, quiet afternoons, and dinners at home when children need an early night. Choose a villa with enough beds and space for everyone, and ask about kitchen equipment if you plan to cook. Share your daily plans and any needs in advance so the trip runs smoothly once you arrive.
