The Westin St John Resort
St John Condos helps travelers from Blue Hills, Connecticut, plan a first trip to the Caribbean by renting a villa at the Westin St John Resort on St. John, with local answers before you book.
If you are leaving Blue Hills for the first time, the Caribbean can feel like a very different world from the Northeast. The water is warm, the pace is slower, and the light has a quality most New England visitors have not seen before. A villa rental gives you room to settle in rather than move from one hotel room to another, which suits a first visit well. Blue Hills is a long way in climate terms from St. John, so it helps to think ahead about what you will pack, how you will spend your days, and what kind of rest you want. Renting a villa by the week at the Westin St John Resort lets you set your own rhythm, whether that means slow mornings on the terrace or a full day out exploring the island.

Getting from Blue Hills to St. John
- Reach St. Thomas first. Most visitors from Connecticut fly into St. Thomas, the airport code being STT, and then make their way across to St. John. From the airport you take a taxi to Red Hook, where you board the passenger ferry to Cruz Bay. Plan your flights so you land with enough daylight to make the crossing comfortably and without rushing.
- Pick your season carefully. Connecticut winters are cold, so many travelers from Blue Hills choose to leave during the coldest months for the warmth of the islands. The Caribbean stays warm year round, so the choice comes down to crowds, rain patterns and your budget. Think about what you most want from the trip before you pick your dates.
- Plan your villa stay. Villas are rented by the week, which makes a first Caribbean trip feel unhurried. Book through St John Condos for the Westin St John Resort, and ask about the Villa Rentals available before you commit. Once on the island, remember that driving is on the left, so take your time on the roads when you first arrive.
Frequently asked questions
Is a first Caribbean trip from Blue Hills hard to organize?
It takes a little more planning than a drive to the shore, mostly around flights and the ferry from St. Thomas. Once you have your travel days set, the rest is simple. A villa gives you one base, so you are not packing and unpacking across the island, which keeps the trip feeling relaxed.
Should I rent a car on St. John?
Many visitors find having a car useful, since it lets you reach beaches and viewpoints on your own schedule. Keep in mind that driving is on the left side of the road, which takes some getting used to. Ask the St John Condos team what they suggest for getting around before you book.
