The Westin St John Resort

St John Condos helps travelers from Phippsburg, Colorado, plan a winter escape to villas at the Westin St John Resort on St. John, where the warm Caribbean air offers a welcome change from the cold. Our local team answers questions before you book.

Winters in Colorado can settle in hard and stay for a long stretch, and many of us in Phippsburg start looking for a change of scenery well before the snow melts. St. John offers a different kind of season, with mild warm weather that feels far removed from shoveling a driveway or scraping a windshield. Villa Rentals at the Westin St John Resort give you room to unwind on your own schedule, which can make a cold-weather break feel like a true reset. The island is part of the US Virgin Islands, so the trip carries a bit of an adventure feeling without requiring a passport. Most visitors fly into St. Thomas, then take a taxi to Red Hook and catch the passenger ferry to Cruz Bay. Driving on St. John is on the left, which is worth remembering before you pick up a rental car. Our team is happy to talk through the details before you commit.

Planning your escape from Phippsburg

  1. Getting to St. John. Most travelers from Phippsburg fly to St. Thomas, which is the airport code STT, and then take a taxi to Red Hook. From there, the passenger ferry carries you across to Cruz Bay on St. John. Plan your connections with a little breathing room, since winter travel out of Colorado can bring its own delays. Our team can share practical notes on the crossing so the last leg feels easy.
  2. Choosing when to leave. Leaving Colorado during the deepest part of winter can feel like the right move, but many people prefer to go as soon as the cold starts to bite and return before the spring thaw. Think about your own calendar, school breaks, and work commitments. Villas are rented by the week, so a full seven-day stay is the natural unit, and picking dates early gives you the most choice.
  3. Planning the stay. Once you have dates, consider what you want your days to look like. Some travelers want a quiet villa with long mornings and little else, while others enjoy building in a few outings around the island. Rent a car if you want to explore on your own, keeping in mind that driving on the left takes some adjustment. Tell our team what matters to you and we will help you match your stay to it.

Frequently asked questions

Do I need to rent a car when I visit St. John from Phippsburg?

It depends on how you like to travel. Many visitors rent a car to explore the island at their own pace, and you will be driving on the left. If you prefer to stay close to your villa and the resort, you may find that you need one less often. Our team can talk through what fits your plans.

Is a villa a good choice for a winter getaway with family or friends?

Many travelers from Colorado find that a villa offers more space and privacy than a standard hotel room, especially for groups. Villas are rented by the week, which gives everyone room to settle in. Ask our local team about the layouts and what each villa offers before you book.
