The Westin St John Resort
St John Condos helps travelers from New Preston, Connecticut, plan a first Caribbean trip to a villa at the Westin St John Resort, sorting out the flights, the timing, and the week-long stay before you book.
If New Preston is home, a first trip to the Caribbean can feel like a big step. The water is warm, the pace is slow, and the landscape looks nothing like the hills and lakes you know from northwestern Connecticut. Many travelers from this part of the state start by wondering where to begin, and that is a fine place to start. St. John is a small island in the US Virgin Islands, and it suits a first visit well because it is quiet and easy to settle into. Villa Rentals at the Westin St John Resort give you private space with room to unwind. Our team can walk you through what to expect so the trip feels planned rather than uncertain.

Your first Caribbean trip, planned from New Preston
- Getting from the area. Most visitors reach St. John by flying into St. Thomas, which has the code STT, and then taking a taxi to Red Hook. From there a passenger ferry carries you across to Cruz Bay on St. John. Plan for this sequence from wherever you leave Connecticut, and allow yourself a relaxed pace once you land, since the island rewards slowing down.
- Choosing when to go. Connecticut winters are cold, so many New Preston travelers look toward the islands in the colder months, when the warm weather is a welcome change. The Caribbean stays warm year round, so the right season depends on how much rain you are willing to risk and how crowded you want the beaches to be. Tell us your preferred dates and we will help you weigh the options.
- Planning the stay. Villas are rented by the week, which gives a first-time visitor time to settle in without rushing from place to place. Think about what you want from the days: swimming, reading on a terrace, or exploring the trails. Keep in mind that driving on St. John is on the left side of the road, so you may want to think ahead about getting around before you arrive.
