The Westin St John Resort
St John Condos can help families from Lakeside, Florida, plan a relaxed island trip, from the first flight to the final evening on the water. Their local team answers questions before you book, so you can settle on the details with confidence.
Lakeside sits in the Southeast, where the weather is warm for much of the year and a trip to the Caribbean can feel like a natural step away from everyday routines. For a family, the appeal is simple: a change of scenery, time together, and a place where the days move at a gentler pace. St. John is a small island in the US Virgin Islands, and it suits households that want room to spread out rather than a crowded resort strip. Villa rentals at the Westin St John Resort give families a home base with more space than a standard hotel room. You can cook a meal, gather around a table, and keep your own schedule while still reaching the resort grounds. St John Condos works with families to match villa layouts to the people traveling, so the trip feels settled from the start.

Planning a family trip from Lakeside
- Getting to the island. Most visitors fly into St. Thomas, which uses the airport code STT. From there, a taxi carries you to Red Hook, where you board the passenger ferry to Cruz Bay on St. John. Families traveling with young children or a lot of luggage should plan that transfer with patience, and keep essentials within reach for the ferry ride.
- Choosing when to go. The islands stay warm throughout the year, but school calendars and holiday weeks shape when many Florida families are free to travel. Consider how crowded the seasons can feel and whether a quieter stretch suits your group better. Ask the St John Condos team what they see in availability before you commit to dates.
- Planning the stay. Rentals are booked by the week, so decide early how many days you want on island and who is sleeping where. Note that driving on St. John is on the left, which can take some getting used to. Think through meals, beach gear, and a loose plan for each day, leaving room for unplanned afternoons.
Frequently asked questions
Is a villa a good fit for a family from Lakeside?
Often, yes. A villa gives children their own space, lets parents keep a kitchen for simple meals, and offers room to relax after a day outside. St John Condos can talk through bedroom counts and layouts so you know what to expect before you book.
Do I need to plan around getting from St. Thomas to St. John?
It helps to. Most travelers take a taxi from the airport to Red Hook and then the passenger ferry to Cruz Bay. Ask the St John Condos team about arrival logistics for your group, and pack so the transfers feel manageable for everyone.
