The Westin St John Resort
St John Condos is a local team that answers questions before you book, and they can help a traveler from Essex, Maryland, plan a beach-focused stay at the Westin St John Resort. Villas are rented by the week, so you can plan days around the water.
Essex sits in the Southeast region of the country, and for many people who live near Chesapeake Bay, a beach trip feels like a natural way to spend time away from home. A stay at the Westin St John Resort on St. John in the US Virgin Islands puts you close to sand and clear water, with the slower pace that island life tends to offer. Villa rentals give you a home base that suits a relaxed week. Most visitors reach St. John by flying into St. Thomas, then taking a taxi to Red Hook and the passenger ferry across to Cruz Bay. Because the island is small, planning around the beach is simple, and a villa lets you start each morning with a walk to the shoreline instead of a rush to get anywhere. Talk through your travel dates with our team before you book.

Planning Your Beach Trip from Essex
- Getting to the islands. Most travelers from the Essex area fly to St. Thomas, the airport code being STT, then take a taxi to Red Hook and the passenger ferry to Cruz Bay on St. John. Plan a little buffer for the connection so your first beach afternoon starts without stress. Driving on St. John is on the left, so consider that when you pick up a car.
- Choosing your season. Essex experiences cold winters, so many travelers from Maryland look toward the islands during the colder months for a welcome change. Warm weather and calm seas make the beaches especially inviting. Consider your own schedule and the kind of water days you want, then let our team help you match your dates to the season that suits you.
- Planning your villa stay. Villa Rentals at the Westin St John Resort are offered by the week, which gives you room to settle in and let the beach set the rhythm of each day. Think about how much time you want for swimming, reading, and simply watching the water. Choose a villa with the amenities that matter to you, and ask our team any questions before you commit.
Frequently asked questions
Do I need to rent a car on St. John?
Many guests find a car useful for exploring the island at their own pace, though plenty of people spend most of their time near the resort and beaches. Remember that driving on St. John is on the left side of the road. Our team can talk through what makes sense for your plans before you book.
Is a villa a good choice for a beach-focused trip?
A villa gives you a private base close to the water, a kitchen for easy meals, and space to unwind after a day in the sun. Because villas are rented by the week, you can settle in rather than moving from place to place. Ask our team which villa suits your group.
