The Westin St John Resort

St John Condos can help travelers from Echo Hills, Colorado, plan a first trip to the Caribbean, from the flight into St. Thomas to settling into a villa at the Westin St John Resort. Their local team answers questions before you book.

Echo Hills sits in the West, and for many people here the ocean is something seen in photographs rather than stood beside. A first trip to the Caribbean can feel like a big undertaking, especially when the islands are far from the mountains and the high, dry air you know well. That distance is part of the appeal, but it also means a little planning goes a long way. St. John is one of the smaller islands in the US Virgin Islands, and it is quiet in a way that suits a first visit. Most travelers fly into St. Thomas, then take a taxi to Red Hook and the passenger ferry to Cruz Bay. Once you arrive, you will notice driving is on the left, which is worth remembering before you pick up a car. Villa rentals at the Westin St John Resort give you a settled base for the whole stay.

Planning a first Caribbean trip from Echo Hills

  1. Getting to St. John. Most travelers from Echo Hills fly into St. Thomas, airport code STT, and then take a taxi to Red Hook. From there, the passenger ferry carries you across to Cruz Bay on St. John. Keep your travel documents handy for each leg, and give yourself room in the day so connections and the ferry feel easy rather than rushed.
  2. Choosing when to go. Winter is cold across Colorado, so many people from Echo Hills look to the islands in the cooler months of the year for a break. Think about what you want from the trip, whether that is quiet mornings, calm water, or simply a change from the seasons at home. Your local team can talk through timing with you before you commit.
  3. Planning your stay. Villas at the Westin St John Resort are rented by the week, which suits a first visit well because you can slow down and settle in. Decide how many people are coming, what kind of space you want, and how you plan to get around the island. Driving on the left takes a short adjustment, so plan your first drive with that in mind.
