The Westin St John Resort

St John Condos helps travelers from Tanaina, Alaska, plan a long-held dream trip to the Westin St John Resort, with villa rentals set up around a stay that feels like a true splurge. Their local team answers questions before you book.

For many people in Tanaina, a trip to the Caribbean is something saved for and talked about for years before it finally happens. A stay in the US Virgin Islands can feel like a reward for patience, and a villa at the Westin St John Resort makes that reward feel personal and unhurried. You are far from the cold of an Alaska winter, and the warm, easy pace of the island starts to set in almost as soon as you arrive. Choosing a villa rather than a standard room changes how the week unfolds. You have room to spread out, cook a few meals, and step outside without a crowd of other guests around you. Villa Rentals are typically booked by the week, which suits a trip you have planned carefully and want to enjoy fully. St John Condos can talk through which option fits your plans before you commit.

Planning your splurge from Tanaina

  1. Reaching the island. Most visitors from Alaska fly into St. Thomas (STT) and then take a taxi to Red Hook, where the passenger ferry carries you across to Cruz Bay on St. John. Plan for a few connections along the way and keep your travel documents within easy reach. Once you land on St. John, remember that driving is on the left side of the road, so take it slowly if you rent a car.
  2. Choosing your season. Tanaina sees long, dark winters, so many travelers there find that a warm island stay is most welcome during the colder months at home. The Caribbean stays warm year round, so the choice often comes down to your own schedule and when you can take time away. Think about when you can truly unwind, then book early so the villa you want is still available.
  3. Planning the stay. Set aside time before you leave to decide which days you want to rest, which you want to explore, and how you will spend your evenings. Because villas are rented by the week, you can build a relaxed rhythm instead of rushing from place to place. Share your plans with the St John Condos team, who can help you match the villa and the stay to the kind of trip you have been imagining.
