The Westin St John Resort
St John Condos helps families from Rangely, Colorado, plan a week in villas at the Westin St John Resort on St. John, and the local team answers questions before you book.
Rangely sits in the western part of Colorado, a long way from the warm water of the Caribbean. For a family that has spent winters bundled up against the cold, a trip to a tropical island can feel like a complete change of pace. The Westin St John Resort offers villa rentals that give everyone room to spread out, so parents and children can each find their own corner of the day. Villa rentals are rented by the week, which suits families who want a longer stay without the pressure of packing and unpacking every few nights. A villa gives you a kitchen, separate sleeping areas, and a place to gather after a day outside. If your group is planning a slower kind of vacation, this is a setting where that feels natural rather than forced.

Planning a family trip from Rangely
- Getting to the islands. Most visitors reach St. John by flying into St. Thomas, which has the airport code STT. From there a taxi will take you to Red Hook, where you board the passenger ferry to Cruz Bay. Ask the St John Condos team to walk you through each leg so the connections feel simple, especially if you are traveling with young children and a lot of luggage.
- Choosing when to leave. Leaving a Colorado winter behind is a big part of the appeal for many families from Rangely, so think about which weeks of the year suit your schedule and your school calendar. The team can share what to expect from the island season and help you match your dates to the kind of trip you want, whether that means lazy mornings or a more active itinerary.
- Planning the stay. Once you have dates, choose a villa that fits your group and confirm the details that matter most to a family, such as bedrooms, kitchen setup, and how the space is arranged. Driving on St. John is on the left, so consider whether you will rely on a rental vehicle or prefer to plan around the ferry and taxis. Thoughtful planning keeps the week relaxed.
Frequently asked questions
Do we need to rent a car on St. John?
It depends on how you want to move around the island. Driving is on the left, which takes a little adjustment for visitors used to Colorado roads. Many families choose to combine a rental vehicle with taxis for certain outings. The St John Condos team can talk through the options so you can decide what makes the most sense for your group.
Is a villa better than a hotel room for a family?
For many families, a villa offers more space, a full kitchen, and separate areas where children and adults can rest. Villa rentals are booked by the week, which can make a longer stay feel easy. The local team can explain what each villa includes so you can compare them with the needs of your family before you book.
