The Westin St John Resort
St John Condos is a local team that answers questions before you book, and many travelers from Manchester, Maryland, use that help to plan a week of snorkeling and beach days on St. John at the Westin St John Resort.
Manchester sits in the Southeast part of the country, in a state where the seasons turn clearly from one to the next. For many people from here, a week spent in warm water, with sand underfoot and a mask ready for the morning, feels like a welcome change of pace. St. John is a small island in the US Virgin Islands, and its calm shoreline suits travelers who want to float, swim, and wander without a crowded schedule. A snorkeling week rewards a little planning. Think about how much time you want in the water, which beaches appeal to you, and whether you prefer quiet mornings or long afternoons on the sand. Villa Rentals at the Westin St John Resort give you a home base with room to spread out, which can make a week of beach days feel relaxed rather than rushed. Ask the St John Condos team any questions before you commit.

Planning your trip from Manchester
- Reaching the island. Most visitors from Maryland fly into St. Thomas, airport code STT, and then take a taxi to Red Hook. From there, the passenger ferry carries you across to Cruz Bay on St. John. Pack light enough for the ferry and the short ride, and plan to keep your snorkel gear in an easy-to-reach bag so you can head to the water as soon as you arrive.
- Choosing when to go. Maryland winters are cold, so many travelers from the area look to the Caribbean for a break from grey skies and chilly mornings. Consider which part of the year suits your schedule and your tolerance for warm, humid days. Water conditions and crowds can change with the season, so it helps to talk through your dates with the St John Condos team before you book.
- Planning your stay. Villas on St. John are rented by the week, which suits a snorkeling trip well. Decide how you want to split your days between reef time, beach time, and simple rest. Remember that driving on the island is on the left, so think about whether you will rent a car or rely on taxis and walking. A clear plan keeps the week enjoyable without feeling overscheduled.
Frequently asked questions
Do I need to bring my own snorkel gear from Manchester?
Many travelers prefer to bring their own mask, snorkel, and fins because they know how those fit. Check with the St John Condos team about what your villa provides and what is worth packing. Bringing your own gear can save you from searching for the right fit once you arrive, and it leaves more time for the water.
Is a villa better than a hotel room for a week of beach days?
It depends on your group and your habits. A villa rented by the week offers more room, a kitchen for simple meals, and a quieter base between swims. Hotel rooms can be simpler for short stays. The St John Condos team can talk through the options with you and help you decide which fits your week.
