The Westin St John Resort
St John Condos is a local team that answers questions before you book, and they can help a traveler from Madison, Maryland, plan a week of exploring the island from a villa at the Westin St John Resort.
A week on St. John gives you room to slow down and see the island at your own pace. From Madison, Maryland, the trip usually begins with a flight to St. Thomas, a taxi ride to Red Hook, and then the passenger ferry across to Cruz Bay. Once you arrive, a villa on the Westin St John Resort property can serve as a steady base for every day of your stay. Because villas are rented by the week, a full seven days fits the way most people want to explore. You can spend one morning on a long walk, another afternoon on the water, and an evening simply watching the light change. Our team is glad to talk through options before you commit, so the week you picture is the week you get. Just keep in mind that St. John drives on the left, which is worth remembering when you first take the wheel.

Your Madison Plan for St. John
- Getting to the Island. Most travelers from the Madison area fly into St. Thomas, the usual gateway to the Virgin Islands. From the airport, a taxi will take you to Red Hook, where you board the passenger ferry to Cruz Bay. Plan for a little extra time at the ferry dock, and pack your essentials in a bag you can carry easily, since you will be moving between the car, the boat, and your villa.
- Choosing Your Season. Madison sits in a region of the US where winters are cold and the calendar fills up quickly during school breaks. Many visitors from Maryland prefer to travel during the cooler, drier part of the year, when the island is comfortable for walking and swimming. Think about what you want from your week, then ask our team which months suit your plans and your budget before you book.
- Planning Your Stay. Once you have chosen your dates, reserve a villa at the Westin St John Resort for the full week so you have a home base to return to each evening. Sketch out a loose plan with a few beaches, a hike, and a sunset or two, leaving open days for rest. St John Condos can answer questions about the villas and the property so the details feel settled before you leave Maryland.
Frequently asked questions
Do I need to rent a car on St. John?
Many visitors find a rental car the easiest way to reach beaches and trails across the island, though it is not strictly required. Remember that you will be driving on the left side of the road. Our team can tell you what to expect from the roads near your villa so you can decide what works best for your week.
Is a villa a good choice for a week from Madison?
A villa gives you a full kitchen, separate living space, and a quiet place to unwind after a day outdoors, which many travelers from Maryland appreciate.
