Getting from Kotlik to St. John

  1. Reaching the island. Most visitors reach St. John by flying to St. Thomas, which uses the airport code STT. From there you take a taxi to Red Hook, then board the passenger ferry to Cruz Bay. Plan your connections with care, since the final leg depends on the ferry. Keep your travel documents and luggage tags handy so the transfer feels easy as a couple.
  2. Picking the right season. Alaska winters are long and cold, so many couples from Kotlik choose to leave during the darker months at home. The islands stay warm year round, but the stretch you pick should match what you want from the trip. Think about whether you prefer a quieter off-season or a livelier time, and talk it over with the St John Condos team before you commit.
  3. Planning the stay. Once you have dates, look at the villa rentals at the Westin St John Resort and compare layouts, views, and how much space you want. Remember that driving on St. John is on the left, so consider whether you will rent a car or rely on taxis. Settle on a simple plan for meals and a few shared activities, leaving plenty of open time for each other.
