The Westin St John Resort

St John Condos is a local team that answers questions before you book, and for travelers from Kemps Mill, Maryland, seeking a winter escape from the cold, we can help plan a stay in one of our villas at the Westin St John Resort.

Winters in Maryland can feel long, with gray skies, cold air, and days that seem to end before they begin. Many people from Kemps Mill reach a point each year when they simply want to trade a heavy coat for light clothing and warm sand underfoot. St. John, in the U.S. Virgin Islands, offers that change of pace, with steady warmth and a slower rhythm that suits a true break from the season. If you are thinking about Villa Rentals for a winter escape, the appeal is space and privacy. A villa gives you room to cook breakfast at your own pace, spread out with a book, and come and go without a schedule. Staying at the Westin St John Resort puts you in a setting designed for a relaxed island stay, and it is a practical way to settle in for more than a few days.

Planning Your Escape from Kemps Mill

  1. Reaching the island. Most visitors from Kemps Mill fly into St. Thomas, which uses the airport code STT. From there, a taxi takes you to Red Hook, where you board the passenger ferry to Cruz Bay on St. John. Plan a little buffer for the transfer so the last leg feels easy rather than rushed, and keep your documents close at hand.
  2. Choosing your departure. Think about when a winter break will do the most good for you. Leaving Maryland during the coldest weeks often brings the greatest relief, while booking earlier gives you more choice of villa dates. Let your calendar, school schedule, and work commitments guide the choice, and tell our team what matters most so we can suggest a window that fits.
  3. Settling into your villa. Once you arrive, think about how you want each day to look. Some travelers prefer a lazy morning and a quiet afternoon, while others like to explore the island in a rental car, remembering that driving on St. John is on the left. Ask us about the stay before you book, and we will walk through the details with you.

Frequently asked questions

Is a villa better than a hotel room for a winter trip from Maryland?

It depends on your group and your pace. A villa offers more living space, a kitchen for simple meals, and a sense of privacy that many travelers from colder places appreciate after a long winter. Tell us who is coming and how you like to spend your days, and we can help you judge whether Villa Rentals suit your plans.

Do I need to rent a car on St. John?

Some travelers prefer a car so they can move freely around the island, while others are happy to stay close to their villa and take taxis when needed. Keep in mind that driving on St. John is on the left, which is worth remembering when you plan your days. We are happy to talk through the options before you decide.
