Getting to St. John from Highland City
- Reach St. Thomas first. Most visitors arriving from Highland City fly into the airport on St. Thomas, which is airport code STT. From there, a taxi takes you to Red Hook, where you board the passenger ferry to Cruz Bay on St. John. Keep your group's luggage plans in mind, since each person will be carrying bags through the taxi ride and onto the ferry, so pack with that in mind.
- Pick your departure window. Florida winters are mild, but many travelers from the state choose to leave when the weather at home turns unpredictable or when their calendars allow a break. Consider how your group's work and school commitments line up before you settle on dates. Booking early gives everyone more room to coordinate time off and makes it easier to secure the villa you want for your full week.
- Plan the stay together. Once dates are set, sort out the practical details as a group. Decide who is responsible for groceries, rental cars, and shared costs, and remember that driving on St. John is on the left. Villa rentals are booked by the week, so confirm your arrival and departure days early and share the itinerary with everyone so no one is left guessing.
Frequently asked questions
Do we need a rental car on St. John?
Many groups find a rental car useful for getting around the island, but it helps to plan ahead. Remember that you will be driving on the left side of the road, which takes some adjusting. Talk with your group about who will drive and whether everyone wants the flexibility a car provides.
How do we decide who books the villa?
One person in your group can handle the reservation, but it helps to agree on the details together first. Discuss how many bedrooms you need and how you will share the costs. St John Condos can answer your questions before you book so the process feels straightforward for everyone.
