Water Sports on St John
There are many types of water sports available to you on St. John. Some of them can be enjoyed on the Westin Resort, and most of them can be arranged for you (free of charge) through our St. John Condos concierge, Teri, at (340) 200-0052.

Below is a list of some of our favorite suggestions for special adventures on the water.
There are many different ways to have fun on the water on St. John!
Small Group Sails
For small groups -- typically six or fewer persons -- looking for sailing and snorkeling around St. John, there are lots of possibilities. Among these are a 30' Islander sloop, a Pearson 39' boat (where you will meet not only the captain, but also his little dog "Matey"), a 46' classic wooden yawl, a 49' Beneteau sailboat, a 50' custom sloop (that is big, comfortable, and has lots of shade on board), and a traditional 65', two masted tall wooden schooner.
Available are brunch, dinner, or sunset cruises, and even overnight sails. If there are only one or two of you, you may request to be grouped with one or two other small families. Private charters are available, too, and this way you can design your own island-hopping itinerary and activity plan.
The captain of one of these boats is also an ordained minister should you wish to renew your vows (or even be married) at sea or on a beautiful tropical beach of your choice.
Larger Group Sails
And larger sailing vessels are available, too. These accommodate between 12 and 22 passengers and include 40' and 50' fast sailing catamarans and (something really neat) an 84' wooden schooner available for private charters by groups up to 12 persons.
Power Boat Trips
To see more sites and/or to visit more of the many US and British Virgin Islands around St. John, you will want to consider a power boat.
There are lots that we can recommend including a 26' Copeland World Cat whose typical itinerary includes several St. John North Shore beaches along with additional jaunts to Jost van Dyke, Norman Island, and Willy T's in the BVI. We should also mention a 49' twin Hull powerboat; one of the fastest and most comfortable ways to see The Baths and the rest of the British Virgin Islands with to 32 passengers. One possibility: four British virgin Islands and five stops: Spanish Town, Virgin Gorda, Cooper Island, Norman Island, Jost Van Dyke. (PLEASE NOTE: If you want to visit the British Islands, you will need to bring your passport.)
Again, call Teri, our concierge, at (340) 200-0052, and let her know what you are thinking about.
Luxury Day Charters
If you would like a luxury experience in day charters, we can recommend two 46' Sea Ray vessels and a 52' Sunseeker. One of the Sea Ray vessels offers a kid's treasure hunt!
Windsurfing
Perhaps the best place to windsurf on St. John is off Cinnamon Bay Beach -- the largest beach in the US National Park and certainly one of the most pristine beaches on the island. Cinnamon Bay Beach is a taxi ride away from the Westin Resort, but there is also plenty of parking should you choose to use a rental car. On the beach, you may rent windsurfing boards suited for all skill levels, from beginner to expert.
Two kite windsurfers.
Snorkeling
Snorkeling gear is inexpensive to rent; you may do so at the Westin water sports shop on the beach, or at any of several shops on the island. Also, snorkeling equipment usage is often available to you at no additional charge when you charter a sail or powerboat.
SCUBA Diving
We can arrange to take you throughout the Virgin Islands and provide you with the equipment you need to dive in many spots where few other visitors will ever see. It is said that there are more than 30 SCUBA dive sites within a 15 minute boat ride from St. John.
Teri knows the ones that depart directly from the Westin St. John Resort beach: (340) 200-0052
SCUBA divers and a snorkeler near a shipwreck.
Parasailing (and other things...)
Parasailing can be scarey at first, but after a couple of minutes you won't want to come down. Teri can arrange for you to try this, and they depart from the Westin beach.
Teri can also set you up with WaveRunner rentals, dinghy rentals, and glass bottom boat reef tours.
Sport Fishing Trips
Teri can put you in touch with the oldest sport fishing charter business on St. John. They operate a 33' custom fishing boat that is available to you for 1/2, 3/4, and full day trips. Typical catches include Kingfish, Barracuda, Tuna, Wahoo, Shark, and Mahi-Mahi. Included are tackle, bait, drinks, and ice. They guarantee you a catch or the trip is free.
