The Westin St John Resort

St John Condos is a local team that helps travelers from Yakutat, Alaska, plan a family trip to villas at the Westin St John Resort on St. John, and answers your questions before you book.

Yakutat sits on the coast of southeastern Alaska, where the land is wide, green, and shaped by mountains and water. Families who call it home often think in terms of long days outdoors and cool weather, so a trip to a warm island can feel like a real change of scene. St John Condos works with families from this part of the West to make that change simple, starting with a clear picture of what the stay will look like. Villa Rentals at the Westin St John Resort give a family room to spread out, cook a meal together, and settle into a slower rhythm than a standard hotel allows. Because villas are rented by the week, you can plan the trip around school calendars and work schedules without rushing. Our team will talk through layouts and what each home offers so your group knows what to expect before anything is booked.

Planning a family trip from Yakutat

    1. Reaching the island. Most visitors reach St. John by flying into St. Thomas, which has the airport code STT. From there, a taxi carries you to Red Hook, where you board the passenger ferry to Cruz Bay. Plan for the transfers with children in mind, pack snacks and essentials in your carry-on bags, and keep important documents together so the connections feel calm rather than hurried.
    2. Choosing when to go. Yakutat winters are long and dark, which is why many families from the region look toward the islands during colder months. Think about your children's school breaks, the weather you prefer, and how much time you want for beaches versus quiet afternoons. Our team can talk through the season that suits your family best before you commit to dates.
    3. Planning the stay. Once your dates are set, consider how your family will spend its days. Driving on St. John is on the left, so younger drivers and first-time visitors may want to ease in gently. Choose a villa with enough room for everyone, ask about kitchen facilities for meals, and leave some open days so the trip feels like a holiday and not a schedule.
