The Westin St John Resort
St John Condos helps travelers from Whale Pass, Alaska, plan a milestone celebration on St. John, where villas at the Westin St John Resort are rented by the week and the local team answers questions before you book.
A milestone is worth marking somewhere that feels separate from ordinary life, and for many families in Whale Pass, that means a long way from the cold and dark of an Alaska winter. St. John is a small island in the US Virgin Islands, reached by flying to St. Thomas and then taking a short taxi ride to Red Hook and the passenger ferry across to Cruz Bay. The trip takes some planning, but the reward is warm water, a slower rhythm, and a stay you can shape around the people you are celebrating. Villa Rentals at the Westin St John Resort give a group room to gather without feeling crowded. You can cook a simple breakfast together, spread out on a terrace, and keep the celebration relaxed rather than formal. Because villas are rented by the week, the stay tends to settle into its own pace after the first day, which suits an occasion meant to be savored rather than rushed through.

Planning your milestone from Whale Pass
- Getting to St. John. Most travelers from Whale Pass fly to St. Thomas, which carries the airport code STT, and then take a taxi to Red Hook for the passenger ferry to Cruz Bay. Plan for a day of connections and allow some slack for luggage and weather. Keep important documents and a change of clothes in your carry-on so the last leg feels easy after a long journey.
- Choosing when to travel. Winter in Alaska is long and dark, which is a good reason many families look toward the islands during the colder months. Consider the date of the milestone itself and whether guests need to fly in from different parts of the country. Set the travel dates early, since a group arriving together is simpler to host, and confirm the week that works for everyone before anything else is booked.
- Planning the stay. Start by deciding how much of the celebration happens in the villa and how much happens out on the island. Villa Rentals suit groups that want shared meals and quiet mornings together. Share a rough plan with the St John Condos team, who can explain what to expect before you book, so the celebration stays focused on the people who matter most.
