The Westin St John Resort
St John Condos can help travelers from Wainwright, Alaska, plan a week away with friends at villa rentals on St. John, close to the Westin St John Resort. Ask the local team anything before you book.
Wainwright sits on the Arctic coast of Alaska, a long way from warm water and sandy beaches. A week away with friends can feel like a real change of scenery when you trade the northern cold for the Caribbean. St. John is a small island in the US Virgin Islands, and it offers a relaxed pace that suits a group of people who want to spend time together without rushing from one plan to the next. Most visitors reach St. John by flying into St. Thomas, the airport code STT, then taking a taxi to Red Hook and the passenger ferry across to Cruz Bay. Once you arrive, you can settle into a villa rental at the Westin St John Resort, where a group can share space, cook together when they like, and gather on the deck at the end of the day. Villas are rented by the week, which fits a trip among friends well.

Planning a week away from Wainwright
- Getting to St. John. Begin by booking flights from the Wainwright area to St. Thomas, the airport code STT, and plan a taxi from the airport to Red Hook. From there, the passenger ferry carries you to Cruz Bay on St. John. Keep in mind that driving on the island is on the left, so the group may want one person to handle the rental car with that in mind, or simply rely on taxis and walking once you arrive.
- Choosing when to go. Alaska winters are long and dark, so many friends from the northern part of the state look forward to escaping in the colder months. The Virgin Islands stay warm through much of the year, so the timing depends on what your group wants most. Talk it over early, agree on dates that suit everyone's work and family obligations, and then reserve your villa while options remain open.
- Planning the stay. Choose a villa rental large enough for everyone, and agree together on who handles meals, shared costs, and the daily plan. Villas are rented by the week, so a full seven-day stay fits neatly into one booking. Leave some open afternoons so friends can rest, swim, or wander at their own pace. The local team at St John Condos can answer questions about the villas before you commit.
