The Westin St John Resort

St John Condos is a local team that answers questions before you book, and it helps travelers from Rio, Florida plan a week of snorkeling and beach days in villas at the Westin St John Resort.

Rio sits in Florida, in the Southeast, where the sun and warm water are familiar to most people who live there. A week of snorkeling and beach days on St. John offers something different: clear water, quiet shoreline, and the slower pace of an island that rewards people who like to spend their mornings in the sea. Many travelers from Florida find the trip feels both close to home and completely separate from it. Because villas are rented by the week, a longer stay suits this kind of trip well. You can settle into a routine of early swims, long lunches, and afternoons with a book, then decide each day whether to explore or stay put. The Villa Rentals offered through the Westin St John Resort give you room to spread out, and a local team is available to answer your questions before you commit.

Planning Your Trip From Rio

  1. Reaching St. John. Most visitors reach St. John by flying into St. Thomas, which uses the airport code STT. From there, a taxi carries you to Red Hook, where you board the passenger ferry to Cruz Bay. Keep in mind that driving on St. John is on the left, which may feel unfamiliar at first. Plan your luggage with the ferry in mind so the transfer stays easy.
  2. Choosing Your Season. Florida winters are mild, so many travelers from Rio choose to head to the islands during cooler months at home, when a warm week in the sun feels especially welcome. The Caribbean climate stays warm year round, so the choice often comes down to your schedule and how much you enjoy the calmer shoulder periods. Think about what you want from the water before you pick your dates.
  3. Planning the Stay. Book a villa for the full week so you are not moving between places while you are trying to relax. Confirm your arrival details, ask about the snorkeling gear and beach access, and sort out how you will get around the island. A quick question to the St John Condos team before you book can clear up most of the small details that otherwise come up later.

Frequently asked questions

Do I need to rent a car on St. John for a snorkeling week?

It depends on how you like to spend your days. Some guests stay close to their villa and the beach, while others want to visit different shorelines across the island. If you do drive, remember that traffic keeps to the left. The St John Condos team can talk through the options with you before you book.

Is a week long enough for snorkeling and beach days from Florida?

A week gives you time to settle in, find your favorite spots in the water, and rest between swims. Many travelers from Rio find that a full week feels unhurried rather than rushed. If you want more time in the sea, a longer villa rental is an option to ask about with the local team.
