The Westin St John Resort
St John Condos answers questions from families in Lonaconing before you book, and can help you think through a Westin St John Resort villa stay that suits a group traveling together. Ask us anything about the island, the villa, or how the trip comes together.
Planning a family vacation from Lonaconing means thinking about everyone at once: the kids who want to be in the water, the grandparents who want a shady porch, and the adults who want a little quiet at the end of the day. Villa Rentals at the Westin St John Resort can make that mix easier, since a villa gives a family its own kitchen, living space, and room to spread out rather than squeezing into hotel rooms. Western Maryland sits in the mountains, so many families from here are used to cool air and green hills. St. John offers something different: warm weather, clear water, and a slower pace that tends to suit a week away from routine. Rentals are booked by the week, which gives a family time to settle in, explore, and simply relax without rushing from one plan to the next.

Getting from Lonaconing to St. John
- Reaching the islands. Most visitors from Lonaconing fly into St. Thomas, the airport code being STT, and then take a taxi to Red Hook. From there, a passenger ferry carries you across to Cruz Bay on St. John. Plan with your family in mind, keeping car seats, bags, and any medical needs in view. Our team can walk you through each leg so nothing catches you off guard on travel day.
- Choosing when to leave. Lonaconing winters are cold, so many families look toward the islands when the mountains feel bleakest. Think about school calendars, work schedules, and the weather you want waiting on the other end. Warm months bring a different feel than the cooler season, and both have their appeal. Tell us your dates and we will help you weigh the options against what your household needs.
- Planning the stay. Once you have a villa booked through Villa Rentals, consider how your family will spend the days. Driving on St. John is on the left, so take that into account if you rent a car. Think about who needs naps, who wants to swim, and who would rather read. A little planning ahead lets the week feel like a vacation rather than a list of tasks.
