The Westin St John Resort

St John Condos helps travelers from Hughesville, Maryland, plan a beach-centered trip to St. John, where a villa at the Westin St John Resort gives you sand and water close at hand. Our local team answers questions before you book.

Hughesville sits in southern Maryland, where the land is flat, the summers are warm and humid, and the winters are mild compared with the northern parts of the state. For many people here, a week on a beach feels like a welcome change of scenery and a chance to slow down. St John is a natural choice for that kind of trip, because its shoreline is the reason most visitors come. A beach-focused stay on St. John means planning around the water first and everything else second. Villa Rentals at the Westin St John Resort give you a private base, so you can wander down to the sand whenever you like and return to your own space afterward. St John Condos can talk through which villa suits your group before you commit.

Planning your beach trip from Hughesville

  1. Reaching St. John from Maryland. Most visitors fly into St. Thomas, which is the airport code STT, and then take a taxi to Red Hook. From Red Hook, a passenger ferry carries you across to Cruz Bay on St. John. Plan a little room for the transfers so the first day feels relaxed rather than rushed, and keep your beach bag handy for the ride across the water.
  2. Choosing when to go. Hughesville travelers often think about when Maryland's weather is at its worst and aim for the Caribbean in those months. The islands stay warm through much of the year, but seasons still shape how busy the beaches feel. Think about school calendars, your tolerance for heat, and whether you want quieter sand or a livelier stretch of coast, and let those choices guide your dates.
  3. Planning the stay around the sand. Villa Rentals are booked by the week, which suits a beach-first trip well because you can settle in and let the days take their own shape. Choose a villa that puts you close to the water you want to swim in. If you plan to drive, remember that traffic on St. John moves on the left, so take a moment to get comfortable before heading out.
