The Westin St John Resort

St John Condos is a local team that helps travelers from Healy, Alaska, plan a beach-focused trip to St. John, where villas near the Westin St John Resort are rented by the week. Ask us anything before you book.

Healy sits in the interior of Alaska, a long way from warm water, so a beach trip from here tends to feel like a real change of scenery. Many travelers from this part of the state look forward to the contrast between cold northern winters and the calm, bright shoreline of the US Virgin Islands. The idea of spending open days on sand and in clear water can carry a lot of appeal after a season of snow and short daylight. Because the trip is built around the beach, the rhythm of the stay matters more than a packed list of stops. Staying in a villa at the Westin St John Resort gives you room to set your own pace, with time for swimming, reading, and slow mornings. Villa Rentals are booked by the week, which suits a traveler who wants to settle in rather than move every few days. We can talk through what that looks like for you before anything is final.

Planning Your Beach Trip from Healy

    1. Getting to the islands. Most visitors reach St. John by flying into St. Thomas, which has the airport code STT. From there a taxi takes you to Red Hook, where you board the passenger ferry to Cruz Bay. Travelers from Healy often build in a comfortable buffer day before the connection, since a long trip from the interior can be tiring. Our team can help you think through that first leg so the arrival feels easy.
    2. Choosing when to leave. Winter in Healy is cold and dark, which is exactly why many people plan their escape for those months. The islands stay warm year round, so the choice comes down to what you want from the sea and the crowds. Think about when you can be away from work and home, and whether you prefer a quieter stretch or a busier one. We are glad to talk through timing with you.
    3. Planning the stay. Once your dates are set, consider how many weeks you want in a villa and how you will spend your days on the beach. Driving on St. John is on the left, which is worth remembering if you plan to rent a vehicle. Pack for sun, water, and evenings outdoors, and leave room for slower days. A short planning call with our team can help you match your stay to your goals.
