The Westin St John Resort
St John Condos helps families from Carrollwood, Florida plan a shared trip to the Westin St John Resort, where three generations can settle into one villa together and still find room to spread out.
Carrollwood sits in the Southeast, and for many families here a trip to the islands is less about a single vacation and more about gathering everyone in one place. Grandparents, parents, and children often want time together without giving up their own routines, and that balance is harder to find in a hotel room than in a home-style setting. Villa rentals at the Westin St John Resort offer a practical answer. Each villa gives separate spaces for different ages and rhythms, so younger children can nap while adults keep talking on the lanai. St John Condos, a local team that answers questions before you book, can talk through which layout suits your group.

Planning a multigenerational trip from Carrollwood
- Getting to St. John. Most visitors fly into St. Thomas, which has the airport code STT, and then take a taxi to Red Hook. From there, the passenger ferry carries you across to Cruz Bay on St. John. Plan for older relatives to have an easy first stretch, with bags handled and rest stops built in. If anyone will rent a car on the island, remember that driving is on the left.
- Choosing when to travel. Florida visitors often ask whether the islands feel different through the year. Common knowledge suggests the winter months are the most popular with families escaping colder weather, while the warmer months bring a different pace. Think about school calendars, grandparents' comfort with heat, and whether a quieter season suits your group better than a busy one.
- Planning the stay. Villa Rentals are typically booked by the week, which suits three generations well because everyone can settle in rather than rushing between properties. Talk early about who needs bedrooms on which floor, who wants a kitchen for family meals, and where you will gather for dinner. Ask St John Condos to walk through the options before you commit.
Frequently asked questions
Can a villa fit grandparents, parents, and young children comfortably?
Many of the villas are set up to hold larger family groups, with separate bedrooms and common areas. Share your group's makeup with the St John Condos team, including any mobility needs, and they can help you find a layout where everyone has space to retreat when they want to.
Is it hard to get around St. John with an older family member?
Getting around is manageable with some planning. Arrange transportation from St. Thomas in advance, and think about how much walking your group will want to do. Because driving is on the left, some families prefer a driver with island experience or a taxi for the longer trips.
